About:

This building is home to the J.E. Cairnes School of Business & Economics which now has over 2,800 undergraduate and postgraduate students. 

The School houses four major Research Institutes, namely the Whitaker Institute for Innovation and Societal Change, Irish Centre for Social Gerontology, the Socio-Economic Marine Research Unit and the Irish Centre for Rural Transformation and Sustainability.

The Cairnes Building is located on North Campus across from the Alice Perry Engineering Building and is adjacent to St. Anthony's.

This building is named after one of NUI, Galway's earliest academics, John Elliot Cairnes.

He was an Irish economist who restated the key doctrines of the English classical school in his last and largest work, Some Leading Principles of Political Economy Newly Expounded (1874).
