First Year Photo Booth
Áras na Mac Léinn: 12pm - 3pm
The SU (Student's Union) bring you the photo booth, an opportunity to capture a memory from your first day here at NUI Galway. You will find the booth in the foyer of Áras na Mac Léinn, beside the Bailey Allen Hall. By the way Áras na Mac Léinn is the Student Building where you will find, on the ground floor, the SocsBox (Societies Office), Flirt FM, Arts Office and the HUB Common Room. Upstairs you will find The Health Unit, the Students Union office-where they have free stuff- plus lots of great spaces for student use.
Glow Dodge-Ball
Kingfisher: 2pm - 4pm
Call down to the Kingfisher Sports Centre and join the Sports Club team for some Glow in the Dark Dodge ball, yes it will be in the dark, but don't worry the balls will glow! It's in the Kingfisher Sports Centre where you will not only find the Sports Clubs main office there is also a climbing wall, a gym, a swimming pool and lots more, why not ask for a tour at the front desk.
Big Class Photo
The Quad: 5.30pm
This is the chance to be part of the big photo with all the other first years, which will be taken in the Quadrangle, the beautiful old building which was the first building of Queens College Galway built in 1849, so be part of history, your college history starts right here.
Societies Games Room
Áras na Mac Léinn upstairs: 6.00pm - 10.00pm
If you are into gaming and want to check out the collection of gaming societies here in NUI Galway, this is the place for you- upstairs in Áras na Mac Léinn. You will meet the Anime and Manga Society who will be screening the film Cowboy Bepop: The Movie- in the Space, Fansci will be playing games in the View, and you will find CompSoc in the meeting rooms. You are welcome to drop in at any time during the evening, there will be refreshments and a chance to meet fellow gamers. If Gaming hasn't been your scene, don't be discouraged! All of our societies are inclusive of all members and there are games and fun for every skill level!
Comedy Soc Presents 'Netflix and Chill'
O'Flaherty Theatre, Concourse 6:15pm
Netflix and chill with ComedySoc. They will be taking a vote for what film they will be showing so arrive on time to have your say! The selection includes: What Now, Bad Grandpa, Jimmy Carr's Funny Business, Step Brothers, Young Offenders and Boy. It all kicks off at 6:15pm in the O'Flaherty Theatre on the main concourse!
African Carribbean Society Movie
Anderson Theatre, Concourse, 7:30pm
The African Caribbean Society will be showing the film 'Selma'; a provocative portrayal of the civil rights movement in the United States starring David Oyelowo, Oprah Winfrey, and Common, to name a few! ACS is a society focused on community and collaboration. They host various events throughout the year, allowing students to participate in cultural dances, workshops, game nights and more. Join us for our screening of Selma and get to know our committee and other society members and what we're about! Check it out at 7:30pm at the Anderson Theatre on the Concourse!
Big Fáilte Table Quiz
8.00pm, An Bialann (Úr restaurant) under the Library
Join the Literary & Debating Society who will provide the questions, come on your own or as a group, there will be tables of 4 and don't worry if you don't already have a team we will be creating teams on the spot. Check and see how smart you are, what random facts you remember (without even knowing you knew them!) meet new people and win some great prizes! There will be no checking Google for the answers, teamwork is where it is at! There will be lots of delicious finger food thanks to the great guys in Sodexo (the company who run the restaurant). Film Society Movie
O' Flaherty Theatre, Main Concourse at 8:30pm
Join the Film Society in the O'Flaherty Theatre on the Concourse at 8:30pm for their screening of Captain Fantastic. The Film Society is a very active society on campus, with weekly film screenings and various film related events throughout the year! Check out this film and meet some of the members to get your film buff fix!
