Bealtaine Festival 2017

01st - 31st May 2017 
The Bealtaine Festival 2017 will see hundreds of events for, by and featuring older people all across Ireland, offeringtheatre, visual arts, music and more. This year’s theme is ‘And catch the heart off guard’ from Seamus Heaney’s poem ‘Postscript’. The Bealtaine Festival is Ireland’s unique nationwide celebration of creativity as we age and is an initiative of Age & Opportunity.

International Mayfly Festival

10th - 14th May 2017 
The International Mayfly Festival in the village of Oughterard is an event for the all the family which is held over four days in May. Along with the main fishing events, the festival also includes art exhibitions, traditional Irish concerts, golf open days, Connemara walks, food foraging; fish tasting, cocktail nights, kids' activities including pitch and putt, limbo, face painting, a fun cycle and lots more!

Galway Blue Challenge

13th - 14th May 2017 
The Galway Blue Challenge involves a charity cycle from Maam Cross to Croagh Patrick, a climb of Croagh Patrick followed by an overnight stay in Westport, then a cycle back to Galway the following day. All in aid of the Galway Autism Partnership.

Galway African Film Festival

19th - 21st May 2017 
The rich diversity of African films, animations, shorts, and documentaries, offering both entertainment and a fresh perspective on life in the continent, will be on show in Galway. The 10th Galway African Film Festival takes place from Friday to Sunday in NUI Galway’s Huston School of Film & Digital Media, Earl’s Island (across from the Cathedral). The films concentrate ways of finding and creating 
identity in familial, social, and political situations. Some focus on individual adventures, others on social struggles.

Bádóirí an Chladaigh Regatta (Galway City)

Late May 2017 
Regatta displaying unique Irish boats, such as currachs and Galway Hookers including the Bád Mór, Gleoiteog, Leathbhád and Púcán classes of boat traditionally used throughout Galway Bay,along the coast of Connemara and North Clare.

Lough Corrib Cycle

June 2017 
This fun cycling sportive in support of Croí. Cyclists will have a choice of a 27.5 mile or a 75 mile route through the picturesque setting of Connemara. We will provide roadside assistance, support vehicles & plenty of refreshment stops along the way!

The Galway Sessions

June 2017 
The Galway Sessions Festival returns celebrating Irish folk and traditional music and the music Irish emigrants brought with them across the world. As in previous years, the festival’s Scottish connection will be retained with an array of performers travelling from Galway’s cultural partner Stirling to take part. Events take place in the Town Hall Theatre and in pubs throughout the city with sessions planned in predominantly in The Crane Bar but also in The King's Head, Tigh Choili’s, Taaffe’sBar ,The Quays, Tigh Neachtains, and Monroe’s Tavern.

Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series

24th June 2017 
Ireland will host one of the six stops of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2017 at Poll Na Péist (Serpent’s Lair) on Inis Mór on 24th June. The world’s elite male and female cliff divers will return for the third time to the rugged west coast of Ireland for a dramatic competition opener. Standing 27m./ 90 ft. (men) and 21m. / 70 ft. (women) inheight, divers will reach speeds more than 85km/h before meeting the wild Atlantic below. Three seconds of acrobatic free fall at venues ranging from natural wonders and visual feasts to historic sites and unknown grounds will push the boundaries of this rapidly progressing sport again in 2017.

SeaFest - National Maritime Festival

30th June - 02nd July 2017 
SeaFest is Ireland’s national maritime festival and this year it will be held in the Galway Harbour area in late June 2017. The extensive SeaFest programme of events will include a seafood fair, seafood cookery demonstrations with celebrity chefs and seafaring family fun. Come along to discover all about our ocean from exploration methods to shipwrecks and life of deep oceans. There will be tours of Ocean going vessels, leisure craft and boats, exhibits on marine life and all manner of festival entertainment for all ages.

Galway Races - Summer Festival Meeting

Streets of Galway 8k Road Race

12th August 2017 
Galway’s most popular athletic event, the Streets of Galway 8k Road Race event will take place on the first Saturday of August 2017 at 7pm and include more than 3000 entrants. It starts on Fr Griffin Road, winds its way through the city's streets, follows a course out around Salthill, before taking in the delights of the prom on the way to the finish in South Park.

Galway Pride Festival 2017

11th - 20th August 2017 
The annual Galway Pride Festival takes place every August throughout Galway City. This new event will encompass everything that makes our city the cultural magnet that it is. The aim is to encourage involvement from the wider community, and to highlight the great variety of people that make Galway such a vibrant and exciting place to live and visit. Events throughout the week will include evenings of information and awareness, arts, and performance, music nights 
andthecolourful parade on Saturday 20th August. The Galway Pride Festival committee would welcome expressions of interest from people wishing to take part in the festival, from street entertainers to volunteers.

Connemara Pony Festival

15th - 20th August 2017 
Premier show for Connemara Ponies in Ireland for breeders and owners from home and overseas. The annual Connemara Pony Festival & Show in Clifden, Co Galway attracts visitors from all over the world. The highlight of the festival is on Thursday and Friday when the biggest showcase of Connemara Ponies in the world takes place. Ponies compete in in-hand classes, ridden classes, working hunter classes, and a puissance (or high jump) competition. For non-pony enthusiasts, there is a dog show, a domestic arts show, and Irish Dancing.
