Tips for Coping with Stress
Everyone—adults, teens, and even children, experiences stress. Stress is a reaction to a situation where a person feels threatened or anxious. Stress can be positive or negative. Learning healthy ways to cope and getting the right care and support can help reduce stressful feelings and symptoms.
Here are some healthy ways to cope with stress:
-
Take care of yourself- Eat healthy, well balanced meals, get plenty of sleep and keep a normal routine!
-
Get active- Go for a walk, cycle or play a musical instrument.Volunteer to help with your community drive or activity. These can be ways to handle your feelings and see that things are going to get better.
-
Talk to others- Share you feelings with a parent or friend. Send a message or make a call. Talking and staying connected can help you make sense out of your experience and figure out ways to feel better. Reach out and connect.
-
Avoid drugs and alcohol- People often think that these may seem to help, however they may be increasing the stress you are already feeling!
-
Take a break- If social media and the news are causing you stress, minimise your time spent scrolling! Instead relax with some meditation or listen to your favourite music.
